Don Baldwin - Lloyd Ice Rink
LCA Board member Don Baldwin has an extensive background in business administration and has functioned as the General Manager of the Lloyd Ice Rink for 16 years. He showed up to an LCA event 6 years ago which happened to be a Board meeting and has continued to serve on the Board ever since! Don is encouraged by the redevelopment of Lloyd Center and the community as a whole and thinks the continued emphasis on residential community building is a positive trend. We checked in with Don to see what is happening at the ice rink over the holidays...
According to the Oregonian, the Lloyd Center ice rink was the world's first shopping center rink when it opened in 1960. The open-air rink drew more than a million visitors its first two years! The ice rink serves as a centerpiece for the Lloyd Mall and is wonderful family attraction over the holiday for for both skaters and non-skaters alike.
Similar to prior years, the rink will contain a decorative 50 foot holiday tree with a tree lighting event taking place on Saturday, November 17th 2018 from 1pm - 1:30pm. Skate for Sunshine Division will follow immediately after the tree lighting, which is a benefit for this community organization that has been providing food and clothing relief to Portland families since 1923. Just bring 8 cans of food and receive one free skating admission!
Don’t miss out on the popular annual performance of the Nutcracker on Sunday, December 9th starting at 11am. And if that wasn’t enough, contributing to the festive atmosphere will be artificial snowfall over the ice rink through the holidays at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm!
