Monthly Keaton Otis Vigil
The monthly vigil for Keaton Otis is held at 6pm on the 12th of every month. Keaton Otis was a young Black man killed by the Portland police on May 12, 2010 in Lloyd in 2010 at NE 6th and NE Halsey. The police admitted they stopped him for “looking like a gangster”. Keaton’s father Fred Bryant started the monthly vigil on the 12 of the month after his son’s murder on the spot where Keaton’s life was taken. Fred Bryant did this for over three years, fighting for justice for his son, every single month in the rain, the dark, the heat, and the snow. Fred Bryant passed away on October 29, 2013.
His family and community have committed to continuing the vigils every month on the 12th, until justice is achieved for Keaton, for Fred, and for our whole community.

Annual Spring Rose Show @ Lloyd Center
The Portland Rose Society Annual Spring Rose Show is the largest and longest-running rose show in the nation. The exquisite beauty and fragrances of this yearly show emanate from more than 4,000 blooms. Entry is open to anyone, and all entrants are encouraged. Rose growers from across the Pacific Northwest participate, and some 6,000 spectators from across the country are expected to visit this year’s Spring Rose Show. Sparkling trophies go to those entrants who grow the most beautiful roses.
Thursday, June 5: 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Friday, June 6: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Lloyd Center / ADMISSION IS FREE
Entries Accepted Thursday morning June 5th, 6:30am-9:30am / Show schedule is available on the PRS website.
Mrs. Henry Pittock, wife of the first Oregonian publisher, along with some of her neighbors and friends, established the Portland Rose Society in 1889. Their vision was that Portlanders would perpetuate the glory of the rose throughout the years. Their dream has been kept in focus for more than a century by dedicated rose gardeners. From the first rose show in Mrs. Pittock’s own garden in King Heights to today’s extravaganzas at the Lloyd Center, the Rose Society has kept alive the intent and purpose of growing and showing the best of the best of roses for the enjoyment of the citizens of Portland.
Today, the Portland Rose Society has around 600 members. Aside from presenting one of the premier rose shows in the United States, the group has built the Gold Medal Garden and the Pavilion at the Washington Park International Rose Test Garden, and it aids in the rose pruning there. The society also conducts many rose pruning demonstrations in late winter, sponsors two other rose shows and gives free rose growing advice and assistance to those who request it. Membership is open to all who are interested in roses whether it’s one or two in a pot or a thousand in a garden.
For more information, call 971-251-0604 or visit the Portland Rose Society.

Peace Memorial Park Cleanup
Join Lloyd EcoDistrict and SOLVE volunteers for our monthly park cleanup at Peace Memorial Park. This event is based in Peace Memorial Park and covers the surrounding areas (Rose Quarter, Eastbank Esplanade/Duckworth Dock). The clean-up event will include trash pick-up, sprucing up Peace Memorial Park, and removing graffiti around the area.
About Peace Memorial Park: Connected to the Eastbank Esplanade, intersected by one of Portland’s busiest bikeways, and graced with expansive views of the Willamette River and the downtown skyline, Peace Memorial Park was established as a public place to honor victims of war, both military and civilian. Since Lloyd EcoDistrict joined in partnership with Veterans for Peace, the vision of the space has expanded to honor the intersection of conflict, climate and social justice. Read more here.

With presentations from Go Lloyd, Lloyd EcoDistrict, Lloyd Community Association, and Lloyd ESD (Enhanced Services District).
Drinks and light refreshments will be served.
We will be collecting donated items on behalf of Right 2 Dream Too (R2DToo). Any of the following items would be greatly appreciated: socks, sleeping bags, large coats, large men’s pants, and rain ponchos. Thank you for your support.
Trees of Lloyd Walk
Come meet some of the oldest residents of Lloyd on this informative group walk!
We will gather in Holladay Park and first learn how to ID a tree together—noting important details like leaf shape, bark grain, and more. Then, take the opportunity to test your new skills and get to know our leafy neighbors!
Finally, time permitting, we will take a short walk to Lloyd’s own Heritage tulip tree on the corner of NE 15th and Weidler and learn a little bit about Heritage Trees and why they matter.
If you are interested in joining, please send us an email to ensure we have enough handouts for everyone to take one home! Can’t wait to see you!

Since 2019 Lloyd EcoDistrict has been working with the Black-led Justice for Keaton Otis collective to memorialize the life of Keaton Otis. Join us and community members at the corner of NE 6th and NE Halsey on the 12th of every month at 6:00 PM to remember Keaton and call for justice.
