Park(ing) Day: Green Loop Stop & Community Garden Pop-Up
This September, we’re turning ordinary parking spaces into something extraordinary! Join Lloyd EcoDistrict and partners for Park(ing) Day, an annual international event where people temporarily reclaim on-street parking for community, creativity, and green space.
What You’ll Find in this Pop-Up Park:
Community Garden Demonstration
Inspired by a Better Block PSU student study, we’re showcasing what a small urban garden could look like in this very spot. Explore some concepts, chat with neighbors, and share your ideas for how more green space could grow in Lloyd. A big thank you to our friends at Garden Fever for letting us borrow plants for the day!
Container Garden Giveaway
Take home a mini garden of your own! We’ll have a limited number of container gardens available for free, helping visitors kickstart their own food-growing projects right at home.
Urban Forestry Yard Tree Giveaway Info Station
Learn about Portland’s Urban Forestry Free Tree program and how you can sign up. Adding trees to our streets and yards helps keep neighborhoods cooler, cleaner, and more resilient.
Green Loop Vision
Visit a special information station to learn about the Green Loop, a 6-mile linear park concept circling Portland’s Central City. Come learn how the Lloyd fits into the vision, and give feedback about what you’d like to see in future Green Loop locations.
Why It Matters
This Park(ing) Day activation is more than just a fun pop-up, it’s part of a larger conversation about how we reimagine our streets and public spaces for people, not just cars. By combining the ideas of community gardening, tree planting, and the Green Loop, we’re inviting residents, businesses, and visitors to envision a more resilient, healthy, and connected Lloyd.
